Sustainable Bedding

Choosing sustainable bedding is a great place to start. Look for organic cotton, linen, or bamboo sheets, which are free synthetic materials. These have many benefits, from being biodegradable to healthier for you. Be sure to wash them in a natural detergent, and line dry when possible, which will help to extend the life of your bedding.

Secondhand & Upcycled Furniture

Instead of buying brand-new pieces, consider other options, including used furniture or upcycled furniture. Or, look for FSC-certified wood sustainable wood furniture, with non-toxic finishes. Shop local when possible to support small businesses.

Minimalism & Decluttering

A bedroom should be a peaceful sanctuary, without clutter. Living a minimal lifestyle doesn’t mean going to an extreme, but you can reduce waste by being thoughtful about what you buy, and trying to repurpose items you no longer need.

Natural materials

Choose natural decor and fabrics when you can, from rugs that use natural fibers to cotton pillows.

Energy Efficiency

Look for energy saving light bulbs, such as LED lights. Maximize natural light by keeping curtains open during the day. Use insulated light-blocking curtains to block the hot summer sun.

Reduce Single-Use Items

Try to cut down and remove single-use items from your routine when possible. If you keep water on your nightstand, use a reusable water bottle. Look for beauty items and other products that are sustainable.
