We have been enjoying burrito bowls at a variety of restaurants for years, but it is easy to make them at home fairly easily! This is similar to our taco salad (minus the tortilla chips).
I do not make this salad with specific amounts. Similar to when we make taco salad or make tacos, we create an assembly line and each person chooses the amounts they wish to use.
Romaine, shredded (or pre-shredded lettuce)
Tomatoes (we usually slice up grape tomatoes)
Mexican cheese blend
Optional – hot sauce
Prepare your ingredients; e.g. shred the lettuce if not pre-shredded, slice the tomatoes, cook the rice.
You can season your own rice, or buy prepared rice. An easy option is pre-made rice, such as Rice-a-Roni or Trader Joe’s frozen rice.
Layer the ingredients in your bowl. I usually start with rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, and so on.
I top with sour cream and hot sauce, then mix together.
